Consultants
Keith J. Gredys, J.D., CTFA, AIF®
CEO & President/Shareholder

Keith Gredys co-founded Kidder Benefits Consultants in 1996 and has more than 35 years of investment, trust and pension administration experience. He is a recognized expert in investment management, fiduciary issues and qualified plan administration and has served a wide range of clients and sponsors — from sophisticated small plans to complicated large plans with participants and individual accounts exceeding $100 million.

Keith possesses a law degree (J.D.) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has and earned the professional designation of Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA), which covers the disciplines of fiduciary law, insurance, tax law, and investment management. He also has obtained the professional designation of Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), which covers investment fiduciary standards of care and investment due diligence. He conducts numerous seminars and continuing education programs on qualified retirement plans and fiduciary topics for individuals and professional groups across the United States. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Nebraska State Bar Association.

Dawn M. Hafner CPA, MBA, CPC, QPA
Senior Vice President & Chief Operations Officer

Dawn Hafner has executive authority over Kidder’s operations and multiple offices. In addition, she plays a key role in developing and implementing the firm’s ongoing growth strategy. Dawn has more than 20 years of experience in qualified plan design, document preparation, administration and compliance for 401(k), ESOP and Defined Benefit plans. Prior to joining Kidder in 2015, she served as Engagement Leader for the ESOP Consulting Division of Verisight (formerly RSM McGladrey). From 2000 to 2003, she was Kidder’s Manager of Administrative Services. Dawn is widely recognized for her expertise and has published numerous articles on issues impacting qualified plans. In 2013, she co-authored “Best Practices for ESOP/401(k) Combinations” by the National Center for Employee Ownership.

Dawn is a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She earned her Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) and Qualified Plan Administrator (QPA) designations from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Accounting and earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the University of Iowa.

Stacy G. Van Blair, CRSP, QKA, AIFA®
Vice President/Shareholder
Omaha, Nebraska

Stacy Van Blair has been a Regional Pension Consultant with Kidder since 2001. He is responsible for business development, plan design, consulting, and client servicing in Nebraska. Stacy has more than 30 years of experience in the pension field, working with plan design, consulting, sales and administration of plans ranging from small to very large and complex accounts with over 7,000 employees. He was previously Vice President/Senior Trust Officer and manager of Retirement Plans Services for First National Bank of Omaha, where he was responsible for over 400 accounts and assets of $1.2 billion.

Stacy has a bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University. He has earned the Certified Retirement Services Professional (CRSP) designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers, as well as the Qualified 401(k) Administrator designation (QKA). Stacy has also received the professional designation of Accredited Investment Fiduciary Auditor (AIFA®) sponsored through the Center for Fiduciary Studies and covers fiduciary standards of care and investment best practices related to qualified plans. He is also a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries

Robert K. Abt, AIF®

Bob Abt, Regional Pension Consultant, has more than 20 years of qualified plan, investment, and private banking experience, serving the financial needs of business and high net worth clients. Bob is responsible for consulting, client service and business development in Arizona, New Mexico and southern Colorado. He has obtained the professional designation of Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), which covers investment fiduciary standards of care and investment due diligence. He has conducted numerous seminars and continuing education programs on qualified retirement plans and fiduciary topics for individuals and professional groups across the Southwest. He graduated Magna cum Laude from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut with a B.S. Degree in Business Management. Prior to joining Kidder in 1999, Bob had a 12-year career with a large East Coast banking institution.

Ray E. Hansen, AIF®
Vice President/Shareholder
West Des Moines, Iowa

Ray Hansen, Regional Pension Consultant, joined Kidder in 2011. He has more than 10 years of experience in serving the qualified plan, investment and financial needs of business clients. Ray is jointly responsible for consulting, client servicing and business development in Iowa and surrounding states. Prior to joining Kidder, Ray was President at Benefit Source Financial where he led the Qualified Plan market segment and Business Consulting team. He has a Bachelor of Science from Drake University and is active in local charity and community organizations. Ray serves as Vice Chair of The Blank Park Zoo Board of Directors as well as the Blank Park Zoo Endowment Corporation. He also sits on the Des Moines Community Foundation’s Investment Committee and volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters and through his church.

Dr. Elio Chiarelli, Jr., Ph.D., AIF®
Regional Pension Consultant
Gainesville, Florida

Elio Chiarelli joined Kidder in January, 2015 and is responsible for plan consulting and design, client servicing, and fiduciary guidance in the Southeastern United States. He has significant background in agricultural education and economics, which culminated in earning his Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from the University of Florida. He has also earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation through the Center for Fiduciary Studies. Elio received his BS in Agricultural Education from Penn State and his MS in Agricultural Education and Food & Resource Economics from the University of Florida. He has eight years of financial and investment industry experience. Elio is also active in the community through his service with the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the First Baptist Church of Alachua, the Latin American Discipleship Outreach Mission Board and the Gainesville Ducks Unlimited Chapter. Prior to joining Kidder, Elio was a financial advisor with Covenant Wealth Management.

Matthew J. Gredys
Internal Pension Consultant

Since joining Kidder in 2013, Matt has been responsible for supporting all Regional Pension Consultants, Primary Administrators and Financial Professionals in reviewing and generating pricing proposals and consulting on investment platform options and plan design. Matt attended Iowa State University. He also served overseas for six years as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Military Police in Iraq, South Korea and Hawaii.

James L. Kidder, CPA (inactive)
Shareholder/Retired

Jim Kidder co-founded Kidder Benefits Consultants in 1996 and has more than 30 years of pension consulting, design, and administration experience. Jim retired as of November 2010. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA – inactive), Jim moderated numerous AICPA pension courses, including Pension and Profit Sharing Compliance, Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), and Advanced Problems in Pension and Profit Sharing Plans. He conducted continuing legal and professional education seminars on qualified plans for CPA firms, law firms, bank trust departments and other professional associations.

Jim is a recognized expert in the design and implementation of Qualified Retirement Plans, 401(k) Plans, Flex Benefit/Cafeteria Plans, and Employee Stock Ownership Plans. He has served on the AICPA Relations and Actuaries Committee, the Editorial Advisory Committee for the Journal of Accounting, and the AICPA Retirement Committee. Jim was the 1989–90 President of the Iowa Society of CPAs.

Judy A. Richardson, QPA

Judy joined Kidder in 2001. She is responsible for managing the administration and recordkeeping resources for Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit Plans in all Kidder locations. She also provides design and technical expertise and support for Defined Benefit, Cash Balance and combination plans. Judy has more than 30 years of experience in qualified plan administration and recordkeeping services, working with large complex Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit plan clients and is a Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA). She previously served as Retirement Plan Services Operations Manager in the trust department for First National Bank of Omaha. She has additional experience with two third-party administration firms in Omaha as well as Principal Financial Group. Judy attended Iowa State University and is a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.

Jennifer S. Jensen, QKA
Vice President/Manager Pension Administration Operations/Shareholder

Jennifer has more than 20 years of experience in employee benefits. She is responsible for managing our administration and recordkeeping operations, including workflow for Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit Plans, in all Kidder locations. She also is a technical expert for our clients on Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP). Jennifer has earned her Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designation awarded by ASPPA. Prior to joining Kidder in 2004, Jennifer was Administrative Manager with Qualified Pension Services, LLC. She also has six years of experience with US Bank, where she was an Account Manager and technical resource for clients’ and participants’ administrative and compliance questions. Jennifer is a graduate of Buena Vista College with a B.A. degree in Accounting.

Brenda K. Sickels, QKA
Senior Employee Benefits Administrator
Team Leader

Brenda has more than 20 years of employee benefit, trust, and investment experience, working primarily with larger clients. She joined Kidder in 2001 and is responsible for providing quality plan administration and recordkeeping services for our clients as well as serves as the technical expert for our Administration Software. Brenda previously served as Relationship Manager and Account Manager for employee benefit plans at US Bank. She has been designated a Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) and is a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa with a degree in International Business.

Carla B. Burgin, CPA (inactive), QPA
Senior Employee Benefits Administrator

Carla joined Kidder in 1996. With more than 20 years of experience, she is responsible for providing qualified plan administration and recordkeeping services for our clients and is the technical expert for our 401kbc.com administration and operations. Carla holds a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), has been designated a Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA), is a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a graduate of Drake University, and she previously served as Pension Administrator at a CPA firm in Des Moines, Iowa.

Leann I. Nurnberg, QKA
Employee Benefits Administrator

Leann joined Kidder in 2007 and is responsible for providing quality plan and recordkeeping services for our clients. She obtained the ASPPA designation of Qualified 401(k) Administrator in 2010. Leann earned her Associate of Business degree at AIB College of Business and then went on to earn a degree in Finance with Cum Laude honors from Upper Iowa University.

Cathy M. Hanes, CEBS

Team Leader

Cathy has 22 years of experience in qualified retirement plan administration. She is responsible for providing quality plan administration and recordkeeping services for our clients. Prior to joining Kidder in 2013, Cathy’s experience included plan administration management and recordkeeping services with third-party administration, banking and insurance firms in Des Moines, IA. She holds her Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation and continues to pursue continuing education in her area of expertise. Cathy graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Thomas E. Zuck, QPA, ERPA
Employee Benefits Administrator

Tom has worked in employee benefits since 2008. He received his Qualified Plan Administrator (QPA) designation through ASPPA and his Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) designation through the IRS. At Kidder, Tom is responsible for providing quality plan administration and recordkeeping services for DC and DB plans. He provides our clients with a strong technical foundation in defined benefit plans, including cash balance plans, and he has excellent relationship management and problem solving skills. Prior to joining Kidder, Tom worked for a TPA firm assisting clients with plan design and document administration. He earned his BA in Philosophy from the University of Michigan.

Melissa A. Kimm
Document Design Specialist

Melissa joined Kidder in 2015 and is responsible for preparation of plan designs and plan documents for clients. Working with the Document and Design Manager, she is also involved in filing IRS determination letters and IRS and Department of Labor corrections and resolutions. She has over 15 years of qualified plan document, administration and finance-related experience. She was previously an Administrator with Pentegra Retirement Services. She received her B.A in Economics from Rollins College and a B.A. in Accounting from Furman University.

Kathy joined the company in 1999 and is responsible for providing quality plan administration services for Defined Contribution plans. She has more than 15 years of qualified plan administration experience. Kathy is a 1981 graduate of Thomas Jefferson Medical University and attended University of Alaska with an emphasis in business administration and accounting.

Melody H. Dunlap

Melody joined the company in 2005 and is responsible for providing quality plan administration services for Defined Contribution plans. She has more than 20 years of qualified plan administration and finance experience. Prior to joining our company, Melody served with Morgan Stanley. Her expertise on the brokerage side of the administrative process has proven to be of great value to our company and our clients.

Dougas S. Lane
President, Kidder-Lane Actuarial Services

Doug Lane co-founded Farr, Kellner, and Lane in 1993, which later became Lane & Associates in 2000. Lane & Associates provided actuarial services for Defined Benefit and Cash Balance plans for plan sponsors and other third party administrators, including Kidder Benefits Consultants, Inc.

In 2011, Kidder Benefits Consultants, Inc. acquired majority ownership of Lane & Associates and now operates as Kidder-Lane Actuarial Services, LLC. Doug serves as the President of Kidder-Lane which provides actuarial services for over 270 plans from plan sponsors and other third party administrators.

With over 30 years of experience, Doug has worked as a consulting actuary for both small and large pension plans and health plans since beginning his career at Principal Financial Group. Doug is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. He has earned and maintained the professional designations of Fellowship of Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Enrolled Actuary (EA). Doug is also a member of the Society of Pension Actuaries (MSPA) and the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Kevin G. Steffensmeier
Senior Pension Manager

Kevin has been the Senior Pension Manager with Kidder-Lane Actuarial Services (previously Farr, Kellner, and Lane, and later Lane & Associates) since 1995. Kevin provides analysis and calculations for all actuarial work of Kidder-Lane. He provides technical support to the Chief Actuary, clients, and third party administrators in their administration of Defined Benefit and Cash Balance Plans. Kevin has 25 years experience, beginning his career in the Pension Actuarial Services Department at Principal Financial Group. He obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance and minor in Economics from Iowa State University. Kevin has also been awarded the Fellowship of Life Management Institute (FMLI) designation.

Joann M. Weuve
Actuarial Analyst

Joann joined Kidder-Lane Actuarial Services (previously Lane & Associates) in 2005 and is responsible for providing actuarial analysis and calculations on behalf of our clients. She also provides technical support to clients and third party administrators regarding Defined Benefit and Cash Balance plans. Joann has more than 10 years of actuarial experience and received her B.S. in Math from Iowa State University.

Ada K. Zimmerman

Ada joined the firm in 2000 and manages our Human Resources, Office Management and Systems areas. She is responsible for employee staffing and benefits, as well as ensuring that we have the physical, technical and operating resources necessary to provide high quality services to our clients and centers of influence. She has more than 20 years experience in client services, marketing and database management. Prior to joining Kidder, Ada was with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.

Kristin J. Gredys
Marketing Coordinator

Kristin joined Kidder in 2012 and is responsible for coordinating and implementing all Kidder entities’ marketing strategies – including branding, marketing materials, external marketing concepts, websites and social media. While working and coordinating with external marketing professionals, she also develops and edits Kidder newsletters and other marketing communications. Kristin attended Des Moines Area Community College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has a degree in Fashion.

Janis E. Reese, FLMI
Senior Investment Services Consultant

Janis joined the Kidder team in 2001 and is responsible for communicating with and serving our clients and financial professionals on investment issues, such as investment selection, usage, and investment policies. She assists Kidder Consultants, Primary Administrators and outside Financial Representatives in determining the appropriate investment vendor relationships for prospective clients. She also conducts participant enrollment and education meetings for clients throughout the Midwest. Janis has more than 25 years of qualified plan administration, trust, investment and banking services experience. She previously was with Principal Financial Group, where she administered large multi-million dollar plans. She was awarded the Fellowship of Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation, which demonstrates expertise in insurance-related matters.

Karen J. Rich
Corporate Conversion Operations Leader

Karen manages the Plan Conversion area relating to Investments and Plan Assets. She also provides administrative and operational support to Kidder Consultants, Primary Administrators and outside Financial Representatives on investment platform issues. In addition to providing educational and training support to Kidder clients, Karen is also the liaison between our professional investment vendors, including insurance companies, mutual funds and brokerage operations, and our clients. Karen has more than 25 years experience in securities and trust operations, most recently as a Trust Officer with US Bank. She joined Kidder in 2001.
